Cutting edge techniques for standardized services
TISSUE CLEARING IN BIG SPECIMENS

Tissue Clearing allows the Tefor Core Facility to image big samples in-toto and high resolution. Using a surfactant-based and non-toxic protocol enables us to run these experiments regularly and in big numbers.

HIGH REFRACTIVE INDEX MATCHING

In addition to the tissue clearing, the Tefor Core Facility developed a protocol for matching the naturally in-homogeneous refractive index of specimens. This facilitates high-resolution deep imaging.

CONFOCAL AND MULTIPHOTON MICROSCOPY

Our confocal and multi-photon microscopes are equipped with Leica’s new high refractive index immersion objectives. With 25x/1.00 IMM and a working distance of 6mm these setups allow imaging of thick samples.

DATA MANAGEMENT, ANALYSIS AND VISUALIZATION

High resolution data of big specimens quickly end up rather heavy. We developed a data treatment and management pipeline which allows us and the users of our service to easily access our results.

Core
Facility

As part of the TEFOR infrastructure, the Tefor Core Facility is dedicated to Research and Development of new techniques in the field of fluorescence microscopy. Its development activities reach from the enhancement of the specimen preparation over testing and co-developing new microscopes and optics to data management, visualization and analysis. Excurses in the development of screening pipelines as well as other model organisms than Zebrafish broadens the scope and capabilities of this platform.

  • Research

    Conducting our own research projects is the science we studied for. Using the tools developed in the Tefor Infrastructure projects become possible, which wouldn't be feasible in smaller teams.

  • Development

    From Tissue Clearing over Deep Imaging to Big Data Management; we developed a line of tools and techniques for working on challenging problems in imaging and visualization of big specimens.
